Robert Irving Sarbacher
Robert Irving Sarbacher (1907-1986) was an American scientist, inventor, and academic with a distinguished career in various fields, including physics, engineering, and education. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Sarbacher received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Harvard University, where he also pursued his graduate studies. During his career, he held numerous prominent positions, such as Dean of the Graduate School and Director of Research at Wedd Laboratories. Additionally, he served as a scientific consultant to the U.S. Marine Corps and several government agencies.
Sarbacher made significant contributions to the field of rocket technology, particularly in the development of remote-controlled rockets. He later went on to found the Washington Institute of Technology, where he continued to advance his work in science and engineering.
Sarbacher’s connection to Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) and Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) emerged when a memo surfaced in the early 1980s. The memo, written by Canadian engineer Wilbert B. Smith, referred to a 1950 interview with Sarbacher in which he discussed an alleged UFO crash in the southwestern United States during the early 1950s. This interview remained classified until Canadian UFO researcher Arthur Bray discovered it.

William Steinman’s “UFO Crash at Aztec: A Well Kept Secret.” book looks into the alleged UFO crash in Aztec, New Mexico, in 1948, and refers to Sarbacher’s claims as evidence of a government cover-up. While some UFO researchers have considered Sarbacher a credible source given his scientific background and career, others have approached his claims with skepticism due to the lack of verifiable evidence.
