The Rendlesham Forest Incident is one of the most famous UFO sightings in modern history, often referred to as “Britain’s Roswell”. It took place over two nights, from December 26th to December 28th, 1980 in Rendlesham Forest, near the twin US military bases of RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge, in Suffolk, England.
According to accounts, two US air force officers, Lieutenant Colonel Charles I. Halt and Captain John Burroughs, were investigating strange lights in the forest when they encountered an object emitting a bright light on the second night of the incident. Halt later described the object as a “strange triangular shaped craft” that emitted a beam of light, which he and other witnesses said was capable of moving through the trees. Halt was accompanied by other officers who also witnessed the strange craft. Halt also claimed that the object was surrounded by a “force field” and that there were “indentations in the ground” where the object had landed.
The incident was documented by Halt in an audio tape recording and a memo sent to the Ministry of Defense, which was leaked to the press in the late 1980s, leading to widespread interest in the case. Despite extensive investigation and reports by various official agencies, including the Ministry of Defense and the United States Air Force, no definitive explanation for the Rendlesham Forest Incident has ever been offered.
