Beyond the typical coastal attractions of surfing and sunbathing, those who cast their eyes towards the sky may find something unusual. Among the clear blue skies, there have been reports of unexplained aerial phenomena that have piqued the interest of both residents and tourists. Over the last six years, Southern California has seen an upswing in reported sightings of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs) and Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs). These sightings have become a source of intrigue and speculation. A diverse range of military and law enforcement aircraft, such as Chinooks, Ospreys, Apaches, Black Hawks, and Navy Seahawks armed with Gatling guns, as well as F-18s, have reportedly been seen in close proximity to these unexplained objects. Eyewitnesses have provided detailed accounts and video evidence of these unconventional encounters between the known aircraft and the unidentified entities.

One of the major advantages of using video to document phenomena is its ability to capture fast-moving objects, often beyond the capacity of human perception. High-speed video cameras are designed to capture events that occur too quickly for the human eye to see. These cameras record images at a high number of frames per second (fps), allowing them to capture minute details of fast-moving objects or events.

A regular camera usually records at around 24-30 frames per second. High-speed cameras, on the other hand, can record at thousands or even millions of frames per second. When the footage is played back at a normal speed, time appears to be moving more slowly, allowing viewers to observe details that would otherwise be invisible. For documenting phenomena like UAPs or UFOs, a high-speed camera can be a powerful tool. When combined with other instruments that can measure additional data like radiation, magnetic fields, or infrared signals, a more complete understanding of the phenomenon can be gained.

There have been intriguing observations that Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) or Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) demonstrate a curiosity or interest in other objects operating at low altitudes, such as around 150 feet and above. This behavior is often referred to as ‘tagging,’ which seems to suggest a form of reconnaissance or investigation undertaken by the UAP.

An increasingly reported phenomenon since March 2017 is the concept of ‘baiting’ UAPs, using objects or vehicles to attract their attention and incite an interaction. Reports suggest that various objects, including planes, helicopters, balloons and paragliders, have also been ‘tagged’ or engaged by these unidentified entities.

Video footage capturing Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs) swarming around military aircraft, airplanes, and paragliders above 150 feet has been documented in increasing amounts. These UAPs have even been reported to follow Presidential formations involving Ospreys and Blackhawks. Since 2017, there has been a noticeable upsurge in military presence, including research vessels and submarines, off the coast of Marina Del Ray.

Dr. Robert Shiepe has been diligently recording these phenomena from his residence, utilizing high-definition cameras, radar detectors, and custom-made light boxes to achieve optimal footage. He has coined the term “Dragons” for these UAPs due to their dragonfly-like appearance and estimated 10″ length during flight.

Shiepe has pioneered a technique known as “interpolation” to track these swift entities. This method involves capturing the ‘Dragon’ as it whizzes across the screen, then painstakingly placing it frame by frame onto a still image. This allows for a detailed analysis of its speed and trajectory.

Despite their frequent proximity to various military and civilian aircraft, there’s no documented evidence suggesting these specific UAPs pose any threat to aviation safety. Their interactions, often described as ‘tagging’ or following these aircraft, seem more suggestive of curiosity or reconnaissance than of aggressive behavior. Our continuous observation and analysis of these phenomena are essential, both to increase our understanding and to ensure they don’t pose an unforeseen risk to air traffic in the region.

The coastal communities of Southern California, ensconced by the grandeur of the Santa Monica Mountains, have found themselves at the heart of an escalating dialogue on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs) or Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs).
