Nick Pope
Nick Pope is a British former civil servant who worked for the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) from 1985 to 2006. He became known for his research and investigation into the phenomenon of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) while working for the MOD’s Secretariat (Air Staff) Division. He was the head of the MOD’s UFO Desk from 1991 to 1994 and is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on the subject.
Pope’s research on UFOs began in 1991 when he was appointed to run the MOD’s UFO Desk. At the time, the MOD was receiving a large number of reports from members of the public about sightings of strange lights and objects in the sky. Pope was tasked with evaluating these reports to determine if any posed a threat to national security. In the course of his investigation, Pope became convinced that many of the UFO sightings could not be easily explained by conventional means and that they deserved further investigation.
Pope’s work on UFOs attracted widespread media attention and he soon became a sought-after commentator on the subject, appearing on numerous television and radio programs. He was also invited to speak at conferences and events around the world and has since become a leading advocate for the scientific study of UFO phenomena.
In addition to his research and investigation, Pope has written several books on the subject of UFOs. His first book, “Open Skies, Closed Minds,” was published in 1996 and provides a fascinating insight into his work with the MOD’s UFO Desk. In this book, Pope outlines the many reports of UFO sightings that he received and evaluated while working for the MOD and provides a detailed analysis of the evidence. He also reveals the often-farcical and sometimes bizarre encounters he had with officials and the public while working on the UFO Desk.
Pope’s second book, “Encounter in Rendlesham Forest,” was published in 2000 and provides a comprehensive account of one of the most famous UFO cases in British history. The Rendlesham Forest incident took place in 1980 and involved two US Air Force officers who claimed to have witnessed strange lights and objects in the forest near a US military base in England. Pope provides a detailed analysis of the evidence in the case and offers his own conclusions as to what might have happened.
Pope has also written several other books on the subject of UFOs and has contributed articles and essays to numerous magazines and journals. He is widely regarded as one of the most credible and authoritative voices in the field of UFO research and continues to advocate for the scientific investigation of UFO phenomena.
- In 1997, Pope was one of the witnesses to a remarkable UFO sighting over the skies of London. The sighting was reported by many witnesses and was captured on video. Pope later described the incident in an article for The Independent newspaper and stated that the objects he saw “were unlike anything I’ve ever seen before” (Source: The Independent, 1997).
- Pope was one of the first people to call for the declassification of government files on UFO sightings. In 1998, he wrote an article for The Sunday Times newspaper in which he called for the release of government files on UFO sightings to the public. Pope argued that the public had a right to know what was in these files and that they should be made available to researchers and the public (Source: The Sunday Times, 1998).
- In 2002, Pope was involved in the investigation of a UFO sighting over the skies of Manchester, England. The sighting was reported by numerous witnesses and was widely covered in the media. Pope was part of a team of researchers who investigated the incident and concluded that the objects seen were “unlike anything previously seen”
